Pemberton Township Historic Trust

Our Mission

"The Pemberton Township Historic Trust" is a non-profit all volunteer organization whose goal it is to preserve and research the rich history of the surrounding area and to educate all who wish to get in touch with their heritage.

There are volunteers in the museum who will do their very best to answer any questions our visitors may have about regional history and the railroad. We do this because we are dedicated and know the importance of learning about our roots.

Our ancestor's very lives depended on the railroad for supplies, transportation and employment. Towns grew up around the railroad. It was once the life's blood of this country.

The Pemberton Station Museum is a museum of regional history.  The railroad played an important role in the progress and development of Pemberton Twp. and the surrounding area but the museum also recognizes the contributions of many others  that made possible the lives we live today.  The museum realizes the importance of the railroad but places just as much emphasis on farming, the blueberry/cranberry industry, poultry farms, bottling plants, marl, glass factories, Camp Dix, Hanover Furnace, Native Americans, prominent men and women  that made huge contributions to our community as well as the entire country like Dr. James Still, Elizabeth White, The Budd Family, NJ Governor John Franklin Forte, Indian Ann and even a few rascals like Joe Mulliner and that old Jersey Devil!  There are so many wonderful stories to share and the list is so long that I can't include them all here.

Every artifact in the museum has been donated by people who cared about preservation so others could enjoy them and learn their history.  Everything is done by a group of volunteers who give their valuable time and knowledge so our community will be proud of their heritage.   Volunteers maintain the Rail Trail as well as the Museum, Section House and the restoration of the train cars which, by the way, costs time and money that we raise ourselves through our Gift Shop, soliciting donations, and out of our own pockets.

The Pemberton Township Historic Trust sponsors events like our Annual Toy, Train, and Collectible Show, Annual Hayrides and we go to the local schools to teach the children the history of the area including field trips that stop at all the interesting spots in the Township and this is always done free of charge.  Why?  Because Pemberton Township has a lot to be proud of and we are compelled to pass on the history of this town to each generation lest it be forgotten.  We also do genealogy research for people trying to find ancestors.

We are walking history books and there is nothing we love more than sharing our knowledge with others.  "The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit."

We are truly grateful to the Bicentennial Commission in 1976 who initiated the restoration of the railroad station to be used as a museum of regional history.  The museum opened to the public in March of 1999 and has been operated by the Pemberton Township Historic Trust ever since. Some of them have passed on and are no longer with us but the good they did will live on long after we are forgotten.
